Mr. Brainwash Everyday Life, 2022 is a playfully rich composition of Jackson Pollock-esque paint splatters, stenciled forms, and culturally significant imagery. A thoughtful baby chimp looks over its shoulder, brandishing a can of spray paint labelled with a Cambell's soup can design (a recurring item in Mr. Brainwash’s work). The chimp is perched on a Coca Cola cooler, one of the many pop-culture images prevalent in the era of capitalism, peppered throughout the work. The entire composition is layered with references to the art world, consumerism, and culture that has dominated our society in the last half century. At the very foreground sit five spray-painted words, ostensibly created by the benevolent ape: “ART IS NOT A CRIME.” The sentence reads humorously, looking both positive and irreverent in this colorful world of allusions and icons. This eye-catching and dynamic piece easily captures the wit and brilliance of Mr. Brainwash’s unparalleled style.
Created in 2022, Mr. Brainwash Everyday Life is a silkscreen and mixed media on paper. This work is hand signed by Mr. Brainwash (Garges-lès-Gonesse 1966 - ). This is a unique and original work.
